Sen. McConnell: Feds to Pay ‘Lion’s Share’ of Bridge Fix

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said on Tuesday the federal government will cover the “lion’s share” of the cost of repairs to the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore following its collapse last week.

According to expert estimates, the cost to repair the bridge, which collapsed after being struck by a cargo ship, could range from $400 million to $2 billion.

The bridge, which connected Hawkins Point in Baltimore to Dundalk, Maryland, served as an essential route for the removal of hazardous materials from the city since trucks that carry such materials are prohibited from using tunnels in the area.
