Columbia University’s President: ‘No Place on Our Campus’ for Antisemitism

Four months after a contentious congressional hearing led to the resignations of two Ivy League presidents, Columbia University’s president appeared before the committee Wednesday to denounce antisemitism on her campus — and was met with strong pushback from Republican members of the committee.

“We condemn the antisemitism that is so pervasive today,” the university Presiden Nemat Shafik said in an opening statement. “Antisemitism has no place on our campus, and I am personally committed to doing everything I can to confront it directly.”

But Rep. Virginia Foxx, R-N.C., who chairs the committee, insisted that “we’ve seen far too little, far too late done to counter that and protect students and staff.
